Chartered in 1933 by the AFL as Federal Labor Union #18545. The company organized another union called the Kohler Workers' Association (KWA)(KWA). First Kohler strike took place in 1934. In 1952, the workers affiliated with the UAW. The second Kohler strike began in 1954 after unsuccessful attempts to negotiate a new contract.
